Yearning for my Dad

Hi, everyone! I am back at home now. I have safely arrived home thankfully before Hurricane Sandy has hit. These past three months have flown by in the blink of an eye and it’s surreal that my time in Morelia, Mexico has come to an end…a temporary end. I’m thankful to God for these past few months because there was endless favor on my trip from beginning to end. Saying goodbye wasn’t so hard, because it isn’t “Adios,” it’s “Hasta Leugo.” I plan to return some day, God willing. Those children leave an imprint on your heart that you’ll never forget. Just one time in Morelia, your heart always remains in Morelia in the Casa Hogar. 

Each day my prayer was that the children would see God’s love shine through me, and God did just that. God used a broken vessel like me to love these children and see them as His own. Despite the language barrier, the message of God’s love somehow got across. Every single day, I had children running up to me, giving me kisses, and wrapping their arms around me.. It couldn’t have been my own love, but the Holy Spirit working in me. On my last day there, I was given countless hugs, kisses, gifts, and Thank you letters. What was hardest to see were the tears from some of the children’s faces saying, “No te vayas!” meaning “Don’t leave.” I wanted to take all of them with me back home…God truly does give you the desires of your heart, once you ask- Psalm 37:4. 

Towards the end of my trip, there were some problems with the older girls disrespecting their house parent, lying, and skipping school. Please pray for the older girls who are going through their rebellious, adolescent, “I-can-do-whatever-I want” stage in life. Please pray for purity over these girls- that they would see their bodies as a holy temple, and know that they were bought at a price- 1 Cor 6:19-20. Another boy who has grown up at the orphanage is a kleptomaniac as he has been caught numerous times stealing. Please pray that he would know a God that is bountiful and abundant in giving gifts.

These children have gone through so much, but thanks to God they are now growing up in a loving, Christian environment. Learning about their histories was heartbreaking, but God is good because He has redeemed them and called them His own. They are a new creation in Him! Please continue to pray for inner healing in all the children, that the blood of Jesus would wipe away all their scars ranging from abandonment, hunger, violence, sexual and physical abuse, and for generational sins to be broken. I’ll never forget those children…I’m looking forward to my next trip back to Morelia. 

A million thanks to each and every person that has supported my mission trip. You have made it possible to share the love of Christ to these orphans. God has used each and every one of you to love these children and show them that they do have a Father who only gives good, and perfect gifts.

Hola! Que Paso?? Greetings from Mexico! It’s been more than a month since i’ve been here, and each day i’m becoming more Mexican and falling more enamored with the children and staff. Thus far, i’ve tried majority of the traditional mexican dishes, learned some mexican slang, and made homemade tortillas.  I love everything about Mexico! (…except the mosquitos that love to feast on my blood.) A friend from the states visited and brought a mosquito trapper and every night it catches about 15+ mosquitoes. I’m so thankful for that machine! The children are back in school and are occupied with various activities such as homework, tae kwon do, and practicing for an upcoming theatrical performance. The children were chosen from a lottery to put on a theatrical performance for the whole city. Many people are expected to attend and even the governor of Morelia is coming! 

I started teaching english classes three times a week at the private school that all the children attend. The children here do not get a lot of exposure to English and nowadays to get a decent job in Mexico, it’s vital that you are fluent in both english and spanish. My prayer is that these children will enjoy learning english and they’ll grow up to be fluent in it one day. Twice a week I teach the staff English and it has been really fun. 

Recently, there has been some drama at the casa- some children being disobedience, two children got suspended from school, stress due to lots of work around the house, etc. Stricter rules needed to be laid down, and more pep talks needed to be said. As I see some of the children and their aggressive, disobedient behavior emerging, it’s hard to pinpoint where their disobedience is stemming from. It’s difficult because the children don’t have a mom or dad to sit down with them and teach them right from wrong. These children go to bed on their own, have to get dressed on their own, and be loved by the tias (aunts) and tios (uncles) of the house. Many times I can see the fatigue seep in on the faces of the houseparents and it is only God who can strengthen them each day and fill their cup with patience, love and grace for the next day. 

Tomorrow is Mexican’s Independence day. Tomorrow will be a day of dancing, feasting all day, and shouting “VIVA MEXICO! VIVA INDEPENDENCIA!” Today at school, we had a fiesta and all the children dressed up in traditional mexican attire. Enjoy the pictures!

1) for the house parents to discipline in love and have their cup be filled with patience, love and grace.

2) for each child to feel loved and know Christ as their loving Savior

3) wisdom in how to teach english in a fun and effective way

4) for the Spirit to move more powerfully at the church and the casa.

5) salvation for the english teacher at the school. She is mormon primarily because her husband is mormon. I got to evangelize to her today and invited her out to church. Please pray for the spirit to move in her heart and for her whole family to be saved.

Isaiah 40:31 “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will not run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” 

Since I’ve been here in Mexico, I wasn’t delegated a job right off the bat. I’ve been teaching English once in a while, and helping out wherever there is a need. The founder of this home is visiting from the states this week and she asked if I could be a photographer and writer for this home. FFHM sends out a monthly newsletter updating readers about current events from all their campuses and Morelia hasn’t been on the face of the newsletter for a while. I’m excited and nervous about this task because I have no experience with professional photography and I’ve never written for a newsletter before. I’m excited to see how God will use me in this area and how He will be glorified to reach the hearts of those that want to be involved in this ministry.

Prayer requests:

-       wisdom in learning about photography

an increase in creativity in how to take pictures

to become a good writer

for the hearts of readers who will read about these precious children and that they would have the desire to sew into this ministry

Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. ~2 Peter 1:10

I love it here in Morelia. I love all the children, the staff, and workers. Once those wooden doors fling open, you’re showered with love. The Spirit truly resides here. Each day is a new gift, and the unexpected happens. On Monday, Luis, age 6 pretended he was Batman and jumped off a platform while we were all eating dinner at Costco. He landed flat on his mouth resulting in 3 stitches on his upper lip. Please pray for fast recovery. On Tuesday, one of the little ones got electrocuted because he was playing with a socket. Thankfully, the result was only a little burn on his finger. Today one of the girls got bitten by a scorpion in her sleep. They had to drive to the doctor at 4 a.m. There are constant cries, screams, laughs, and craziness all around, but by the end of the day, God gives sufficient rest to receive His new mercies the next day. Thank you, Jesus.

I’ll be leading morning devotional tomorrow morning and sharing my testimony for the staff here. Please pray for the HS to be my mouthpiece. A staff member will be translating for me so please lift him up in prayer also. 

My prayer is that these children would truly accept Christ in their hearts and know that they have a God who will always love them and never forsake them. Each child has their own story of how they came to the orphanage, and God brought them to this home. He built this house; for every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. (Hebrews 3:4) 

The staff here has been going through a course on how to increase Christ in their lives. Even though I don’t understand the complete lecture (because it’s all in spanish), it’s evident that passion for Christ’s name exudes in their hearts. 

Prayer Requests: 

1) For me to show God’s love in new, creative ways.

2) Physical healing for Luis 

3) The salvation for each child here

4) Increase in boldness for the staff to evangelize

It has been a little less than a week since i’ve been here, and i’m enamored with the children already. Matthew 18:3-5 has been resonating with me since i’ve been here. It reads “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.” I’ve been seeing Jesus in these orphans. These children are God’s precious children and they are the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. The children here are pretty independent since that’s how they’ve grown up. There are several workers here that help the little ones get ready every day, but majority of the children ready themselves for the day on their own. God bless each worker.

Yesterday during church we had a time of praying for one another. As I placed my hands on Adrian and Victor (aged 8), God broke my heart. I was praying Jeremiah 1:5 over them and that was the clamor of my heart. My prayer for them was/is that God formed them in the womb and knew them. God intimately knew these orphans before time began. He set them apart and appointed them as a prophet to the nations. (Jer 1:5) As unbridled tears were running down my eyes, and I finished praying for them, I saw two beautiful faces staring up at me with a puzzled look. It was a comical moment. I just told them, “Dios te ama..” and gave them big hugs. 

I learned about some of the children’s stories and how they got to the orphanage and their stories are heart-wrenching. Thank you, Jesus that these orphans were found and do have a home. God bless the founders of Foundations of His Ministry and for being obedient to their calling. “Almost 200 orphaned or abandoned children are provided the necessities of life in a loving Christian environment and an education through our Christian schools at all our locations” (information taken directly from www.ffhm.org)

I’m so excited to see how God will unfold His love and grace on these children during my 3-month stay here. 

Prayer Requests: 

1) For these children to intimately know Jesus each day and to live by faith, not by sight.

2) For me to build lasting relationships with His children and to use my time wisely with them while i’m here. 

3) to learn spanish and be able to clearly communicate with them. It’s been a struggle because of the language barrier.

Hey everyone! I’ve arrived in Mexico safely and had my first breakfast with the children. The children are so beautiful and despite my limited spanish, it has been a blessing. God’s fingerprints have been saturated on this trip starting from the plane ride. I sat next to a woman and her daughter and as I shared my purpose for going to Mexico, they wanted to partner with me! It turns out that they are heavily involved with Girl Scouts and as their new project, they want to send letters and gifts to the girls at the orphanage. So divine! I’m just the messenger and i’m so humbled to be called by God to be His hands and feet to His children here in Mexico.

Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a random for many~ Matthew 20:28 <3 

“Provision existed long before there was a need.” My dear friend and sister-in-Christ, stated this quote to me and it spoke volumes to my heart. In the inception of my calling to go serve at an orphanage in Morelia, Mexico, fear and doubt snuck in at times where my clamor to God was, “Really Lord, in this recession and horrendous economy, you want me to ask others for donations??” Each time, God was silent and He quieted my spirit by telling me to Trust Him. One night in particular, I was pretty disheartened because of the little donations that were coming in. After delving into the Word and being reminded of God’s promise, my spirit was tempered. The next minute, my phone alerted me of an email notification. A friend had donated a generous amount of $200.00! Each time, a worry burgeoned in my mind, God provided. Up-to-date, God has exceeded my funds to go! The phrase, “His will, His bill” rings so true! After countless confirmations, He is sending me to leave on August 7th, and return at the end of October. Another anonymous person donated $210.00 and their alias on my donation site was “FamilyNChrist.” Til this day, I do not know who this person(s) is, but God knows and sees that person’s giving heart. How much God loves a cheerful giver! (2 Cor 9:7) The support has been overwhelming and i’m so grateful for each and every person who has partnered with me in God’s agenda. I truly do have a wonderful, and beautiful family in Christ. Another friend asked me, “What are you hoping for out of this trip?” My hopes are: that more of the Father’s heart would be revealed to me, that God would overflow my cup with His love, patience, and kindness, and that i’ll be able to see each child through His eyes. It’s nothing that I do, but only through what Christ does through me; all Glory and Honor goes to Him! As i’m cramming to learn Spanish in the days remaining, one phrase that will repeatedly be spoken of to each child is “Dios te ama” which means “God loves you.” 

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” ~Psalm 68:5 <3

Pray the impossible prayers to an all possible God and see just how faithful He is to your needs.
